The OUR Respirometer (OUR=Oxygen Uptake Rate) is based on the measurement of Dissolved Oxygen in the liquid phase. Two configurations are available:
The WATER respirometer has been specifically developed for the determination of the biodegradable COD, COD fractionations and toxicity studies in wastewater & in aqueous systems. It is the tool to study inhibitions and toxicity prevention, Kinetics and WWTP optimization. The respirometer performs cyclic aeration steps increasing the DO concentration, measuring the following DO decline after stopping the aeration (DO drops due to respiration) and automatically evaluating the Oxygen Uptake Rate (OUR). Optionally, (1) a peristaltic pump can feed the liquid sample at the right time during the execution of the test, (2) a pH control system can be integrated for pH sensible processes and (3) a gas flow measuring cell to assess anoxic/anaerobic processes can be added.
The LIFESCIENCE respirometer evaluate dynamically the OUR of the aerobic culture as a performance of the bioprocess. Differently from standard approaches, here the OUR is calculated using Oxygen measurement in the liquid phase (where the process is localized) and not in the gas phase. The sample is taken out from the main vessel into a test vessel where aeration is not present so that a O2 decline is observed and used to calculate the OUR value of the culture.
