PLASTIC respirometry

The PLASTIC respirometer has been developed for testing plastic/bioplastic biodegradability according to 4 different configurations:

• BASE - based on NIR CO2 tracking and intermittent aeration to restore initial test conditions.
• INTERMEDIATE - based on the the IDEAFLOW device and tracking pressure/volume in accordance with ISO 14851 (determination of ultimate aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in an aqueous system), ISO 17556 sec. 7.1 (determination of ultimate aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in soil), ISO 13975 (determination of ultimate anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in controlled slurry digestion systems) and ISO 14853 (determination of ultimate anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in an aqueous system).
• ADVANCE - based on NIR CO2 tracking and continuous aeration in accordance with ISO 14855-1 (plastic biodegradability in controlled composting conditions), ISO 17556 sec. 7.2 (determination of the ultimate aerobic biodegradability of plastic materials in soil) and optionally with ISO 14852 (plastic biodegradability in aqueous medium), ISO 22404 (aerobic biodegradation of non-floating materials exposed to marine sediment), ISO 19679 (aerobic biodegradation of non-floating plastic materials in a seawater/sediment interface) and ISO 23977-1 (aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials exposed to seawater).
• CUSTOM - a combination of tracking tools (CO2/pressure/volume).
